Mr. Toads Wild Ride is one of Lake Tahoe's Premier technical rides. This ride is one of my favorites! It is one of the finest downhills in the Lake Tahoe region as well. It is a somewhat difficult one with over 3200' vertical feet of climbing involved, but once you get to the top it is all downhill! The downhill is mostly all single track too and very technical in sections. Details on how to reach this trail are included, but I ask one favor; please be light on the trail or it will get quickly rutted and washboardy(NO EXCESS SKIDDING, besides you're a geek if you need to brake like this!). For detailed info refer to the TOPO Total riding distance on this ride is a little over 20 miles. You will want to take a full camel bag or two bike bottles. Toads wild ride starts in South Lake Tahoe, California. The best place to start is at the bottom where it ends. From highway 50 going south into Myers take a left on Pioneer(Refer to the Map), which is the only stop light in town. Follow Pioneer for about 3/4 of a mile and take a right on Oneidis. Go through the residential area and look for a turn off on the dirt after you go past the forest service gate. Now you are at the bottom of Toads Ride. Park here and this is where the ride begins. Once on your bike go back out to highway 50 and take a left going south. Past the bug station take a left on South Upper Truckee Rd., follow this road to the end. At the end cross Luther Pass Rd(Highway89). and continue on the Forest Service road(#1213), which is paved and goes through the overflow campground. There will be a trail on the left about a mile up(single track); take it! This is the Lake Tahoe Rim Trail. The rim trail will take you to the top of Toads Downhill Ride, but before you get to the top there will be two intersections. The first will have a trail that leads to the right(Stay on the Rim Trail!). The second one is the intersection of the Saxon Creak Trail(Mr. Toads Ride) and the Rim Trail. At this intersection you want to take a left. This is the start of the downhill. Once at this intersection you may want to lower seat!! The downhill is pretty straight-forward, simply stay on the downhill single track and you will make it back to where you started. There are a couple of lightly travelled trails, which turn off the Saxon Creak Trail, but if you stay on the main trail you will make it back to the car. Although I cannot gurantee that you will not fall off your bike on the descent!
